  • Sign up 5 sponsors - Receive free VIP registration and hotel
  • Sign up 7 sponsors - Receive free VIP registration, hotel, and a travel voucher for up to $500

Recruit a Unity 2022 Host Committee sponsor

This option is great because it only requires you to get one "yes" in order to secure a scholarship, or two in order to receive a VIP registration. However that yes must also be followed by them signing up online to secure your spot. Luckily, for businesses like the ones that are likely to sponsor Unity 2022, the sponsorship cost is very affordable, especially considering the benefits it includes beyond just enabling you or another advocate to get to D.C. to speak with your representatives.

  • Decide on a list of targets. Think about who might be able to spend money to advertise to cannabis patients and support an advocate. We recommend local cannabis businesses which are more apt to support a local advocate like you. Medical only are also more likely to support than a business that serves adult-use customers however that doesn't mean that they aren't worth asking. One that you have an existing connection with is also much more likely to give their support. Medical practices that work with cannabis patients may also be good targets.
  • Review or our Unity 2022 sponsorship slide presentation, this is the same presentation we use when we are seeking sponsors so you'll have access to all the information we use to promote the benefits of patients like you attending Unity. If your meeting with a cannabis business doesn't result in a decisive yes or no, you can offer to send this presentation to your point of contact, which lets you follow-up to ask again.
  • Print some copies of our Host Committee flyer, you can leave these behind with potential sponsors to give them something to look over on their own time. We have two formats available, a generic flyer, and one with space for your patient story and picture. We are happy to add your provided story and photo to our template so that you can use your personal narrative to encourage the potential sponsor to support your advocacy. Just email Geoffrey Marshall with your photo and biography. You can use the example flyer from Nikki Lawley for inspiration.
  • Visit in-person to find out who on staff is the right person to talk to about supporting our national conference and your medical cannabis advocacy. You don't want to take up the time of a "budtender" who won't be able to make that decision for the business. That person may not be available so try to find out a better time to talk to them and see if you can get a email/phone number/business card for that person. To make following-up much easier.
  • When you are telling the potential sponsor about Unity 2022 make sure to emphasize why advocating in DC is important to you, how the Unity conference facilitates networking between medical cannabis patients, health care professionals, cannabis professionals, D.C. policy experts and politicians. Tell them how important ASA's work is and let them know we are still working to expand, protect and improve medical cannabis access.
  • When they're ready to sign up just direct them to the Host Committee Page where they can make a payment with credit card and email us at [email protected] to let us know that you sent them. Once they've paid we'll credit you with their sponsorship and thank them for sponsoring Unity and helping you talk to your lawmakers. They can also pay by check to Americans for Safe Access or by wire transfer. Just let us know so that we can send them payment details.

Gather Signatures for our petition

Thank you for your interest in gathering petition signatures to demand Congressional action for medical cannabis patients. By gathering signatures you can also secure yourself a scholarship to Unity 2022. Here we will talk about a few of the ways you can do that and some tips for success. Keep in mind that signatures gathered with any or all of these methods will count towards your total signatures so don’t be afraid to try multiple approaches.

Option 1: Gathering online signatures

This option requires the least to get started but can be trickier to do effectively and is harder to keep track of your progress.

  • Head to the online petition page and sign it yourself.
• You’ll get a website pop-up with social media sharing options and receive an email thanking you for signing. These social media shares and email will all contain a petition link that is unique to you. It will look like: http://www.safeaccessnow.org/federalpetition2022?recruiter_id=xxxx, with those x’s replaced with a numerical code assigned to you.
  • Anyone who uses that link and signs the petition will be credited to you. However you might not get credit if someone clicks to the petition then navigates away before signing.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the capability to easily show your signature count on the fly but you can reach out to Geoffrey Marshall to request a count.

We encourage you to share your petition link on social media and directly email your contacts with a short personal message (most people don’t respond well to a big cc’d email).

Option 2: Gathering with a digital signup sheet

This option requires more work upfront but gives you better odds of any given person signing up and lets you control more of the process.

  • Go to our petition signup sheet and “Download” a copy of the sheet in your preferred format. If you are signed in to Google you can also “Make a copy” which will be stored on your Google Drive so you can access it online at any time.
  • Go to our petition one-page and once again “Download” or “Make a copy” of the form so that you can access it to show to potential petition-signers.
  • Head anywhere potential signers might be with a computer or tablet with the files.
  • Tell people about the petition and ask them to sign up, let them know you will need their:
    • Name
    • Email
    • Street Address
    • Zip code

Let them know that we will contact them by email but that their information won’t be sold, traded or shared with anyone. We use their address to accurately target news updates and local outreach. You can refer them to our privacy policy at safeaccessnow.org/privacy.

  • You can either have them enter their information into the sheet directly or take down what they tell you. Whatever is more comfortable for you.
  • When you’ve reached the end of the signature gathering period simply email or share your list with Geoffrey Marshall.

This method makes it easy to keep count of your progress and gives you the advantage of asking face to face (or mask to mask).

Option 3: Gathering with a physical signup sheet

This option requires more work on both the front and back end but it doesn’t require a computer or tablet and has the easiest barrier to entry for potential signers.

  • Go to our petition one-page and print off a copy.
  • Go to our physical signup sheet and print off enough copies to meet your signature goal (and probably a few for good measure).
  • Grab a clipboard and some pens and head to somewhere with potential signers.

Depending on the crowd you might want to print a copy of the policy to show them.

  • Go to our petition signup sheet and “Download” a copy of the sheet in your preferred format. If you are signed in to Google you can also “Make a copy” which will be stored on your Google Drive so you can access it online at any time.
  • Enter the information from the physical signup sheets into the spreadsheet.
  • When you’ve reached the end of the signature gathering period simply email or share your list with Geoffrey Marshall.

This method has the advantage of only requiring pen and paper and letting you potentially get multiple singers at the same time. It’s also a format that people may be more comfortable with than digital. However this requires the upfront printing work as well as processing your signers hand-writing into the digital signup.
